About

Justin Park is a composer from Mililani, Hawaii and seeks to create inspiring and thought provoking works for the new stage and media. Rooted in classical tradition, he is influenced by an eclectic style of music from contemporary Hawaiian music to experimental electronic music. Prior to his compositional career, Justin started off as a performer, playing in numerous ensembles such as the Hawaii Youth Symphony and Music for All’s: Honor Band of America. He is constantly moved by the changing landscapes of the world as well as cultural identity.

Justin studies under John William Griffith II who graduated from the Jacob's School of Music in music composition. In the past year, he has received the Playground Ensemble Composer's Scholarship, the Fromm Fellowship Foundation scholarship for Interlochen Arts Camp, and is also an orchestra finalist for the National Young Composer's Challenge. His new orchestral work, commissioned by the University of Hawaii Manoa and Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, will premiere this fall as well as his recent clarinet and electronics piece at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Justin believes that music holds the power to tell stories and it is evident in his works. Justin hopes to be able to write music for the concert hall as well as write music for media.

Justin is a recent graduate of Kamehameha Schools Kapalama and will be attending the Berklee College of Music to study Film Scoring and Composition.
