And Birds No Longer Sing
for solo violin and piano
And Birds No Longer Sing is pulled from Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring. Published in 1962, Carson writes about the effects caused by the chemical industry and their use of disinformation. In the book, Carson documents the silence of birds. After chemical spraying, residents mourned over the loss of singing birds.
The environmental crisis has been an issue that is rapidly progressing each year. No amount of trash and recycling can save our planet. Yet, major corporations and businesses continue to get away with their harmful actions. Majority of the public has been blinded by disinformation and it wasn’t until millions of lives were directly affected by the results of climate change. According to researchers and analysts, there is only a few years left until climate change is irreversible.
Premiered on July 28th, 2021 at the Interlochen Arts Camp. Isabella Nichols, violin. Avery Kim, piano.
